Around Thanksgiving 2014 I was reading the latest issue of Mopar Muscle Magazine and noticed an article about the Scat Pack Dodge Charger. The article went on to praise the virtues of the car and its sticker price of $39,995. My wife had been bugging me about a car we could fit our grandchildren in, so I began looking at car advertisements to see if anything caught my eye. Right after the New Year, Jan 2015, I stopped at San Antonio Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram on the way home from work one afternoon to look at the new Charger. I showed them the magazine article and they were clueless about the Scat Pack Charger and said they couldn’t even order one. I brought my wife with me the next day and looked at the new Charger, there were only 2 on the lot. As we turned to go back to the show room we spotted a white Challenger with red stripes. It just stuck out to us so we test drove the car, we liked how it drove and asked about a Scat Pack Challenger. They had one on the floor but not the white that I wanted. I went home, built the car I wanted online, went back to the dealership and was told they could not order that car for me, that combination was not possible. I was disappointed but not deterred, I went back online and check inventory for the state of Texas. I discovered a white Scat Pack was due in to North Star Dodge and it was a medium match to the car I wanted. I asked my wife when we could go see it, she said we can go now, so we headed to North Star Dodge. When we got there we told the salesman that greeted us which car we were interested in and he asked how I knew about that car, he stated it just came in today and is not on our inventory yet. I told him I followed it online and knew it was coming in. We looked at the car and it was very close to what I wanted. As I looked at it I checked off the things I did and did not want in the car. No sunroof check, no tail stripe check, rear spoiler is black…oops, black cloth interior also not what I wanted, 8 speed auto check. I thought to myself, this car is a real candidate. We test drove the car and I fell in love with it, now to make the deal. I went over the things I liked about the car and then covered the changes I needed before I would purchase the car. I wanted leather seats with red inserts down the middle, red stripes nose to tail, the rear spoiler needed to be white like the body and I wanted the classic wheels that look similar to the Cragar SS (the wheels ended up not fitting over the Brembo front brakes). The salesman got the General Manager and we got the deal done. Within 2 weeks all materials were in and the car complete, the results were stunning. Since then I have put over 31,000 miles on the car and race it every chance I get, currently running both street and no-box classes at San Antonio Raceway. On 17 Jan 16 the car made its quickest and fastest 1/4 mile time, 12.05 seconds @ 116.58 mph. In November 2015 it won the Ford, Chevy, Mopar shootout drag race after the Ancira race for ALS car show at San Antonio Raceway where it also placed 3rd.
